Maybe the melting pot is really a bowl of phô

The LA Times ran this feel-good story about an All-American success story. Thai American Jack Mekpongsatorn opened an "Asian Denny's" in Southern California. The patrons may have changed but it sounds like customers still come in for the same reasons. Mekpongsatorn and Bob's reached an agreement and the neighborhood seems better for it. From a "too much change" (code for "too many immigrants") to a discovery that it wasn't only the old neighbors who had nostalgia for Bob's.

That shared nostalgia and the big portions of comfort food may be helping old and new neighbors share the present and possibly the future, too.

Imagine all that from a chubby kid in checkered overalls.
